Babies who sleep on sheepskin are less likely to develop asthma
Recent findings from a longitudinal study by German researchers at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen Research Centre suggests that exposing babies to the microbes in animal skins like sheepskin rugs and pram liners in their early months helps them build a healthier immune system against asthma and other allergies.
Around 3,000 newborn babies were recruited in Germany in 1998 and were tracked for ten years as they grew up. Findings showed that the babies exposed to sheepskin in this study were 80% less likely to develop asthma by age 6 and 40% less likely by aged ten.
