The Radical Act of Choosing Less and Choosing Natural

The Radical Act of Choosing Less

We live in a time of more.

More trends. More drops. More landfill.

But in a world chasing the next thing, there’s something quietly radical about choosing what lasts. Sheepskin. Wool. Leather. These aren’t new materials. They’ve been relied on for generations. For warmth. For work. For walking the long road. For comfort.

And now they might just help us turn the tide.

France Took a Stand

Not long ago, the French Government passed what’s being called the Ultra-Fast Fashion Law. It’s a direct hit to overproduction and mass marketing, banning influencer ads, taxing high-volume fashion and forcing brands to report their true environmental cost.

They went beyond simple greenwashing penalties and were bold. It’s overdue. And it’s the first of its kind.

Because the damage isn’t just in the materials. It’s in the scale. The endless scroll of newness. From “vegan” plastic trainers to polyester blends that never break down, we’re buying more, wearing it less and contributing more to landfill and the oceans than ever.

The 2008 crash shifted our spending habits. COVID deepened them. But in the same breath, something else began to rise... the idea that maybe, just maybe, less is more.

The Quiet Power of Natural Materials

There’s comfort in things that do their job well. Sheepskin regulates body temperature keeping us warm in winter, cool in summer. Wool resists odour and lasts decades. Leather softens with age and remembers your shape. These materials aren’t chasing trends. They’re working with you.

And they’re working with the planet, too.  We choose materials that are a by-product of the food industry. No animal is harmed for its hide alone. Our sheepskins come from Leather Working Group-accredited tanneries - in small batches with low waste.

Use It. Love It. Repair It.

True sustainability isn’t about the label. It’s about making something well and keeping it in use for as long as you can.

That’s why we’re bringing back the Heaton’s Heritage Coat Collection, a series of original sheepskin coats, reclaimed and restored. The hides were first sourced by Tim’s father, Howard, back when the family ran the Heaton’s factory in Leeds. They were made in that same building. We’re bringing them back to life.

A second life. For a new chapter.

This isn’t just about nostalgia. It’s responsibility.

You might remember a sheepskin rug in front of your nan’s fire. Or the coat your grandad wore for years. But this isn’t about the past. It’s about a different future.

One where buying better, repairing what we have, and choosing what’s natural isn’t niche, it’s normal.

So yes, it might seem radical to choose less in a world of more.  It's clear to us as we hear from many customers who regret donating their sheepskin coat to charity and as we launch our Heaton's Heritage collection.

But we’re here for it. We're here for less being more.
